“Steins;Gate” is an ambitious sci-fi anime that definitely takes a while to get going. The finished package is not necessarily among my favorite anime series, but I admire the creativity at play here. I think the first half of the series can be a bit of a slog at times but I wouldn’t say any of it is necessarily bad. It builds up to a lot of interesting moments and honestly is one of those shows I could spend time analyzing if I wanted to. Overall, it is a unique show that patient viewers will find something rewarding with, but it definitely doesn’t have that addictive quality for most of it so watching it did feel like work for me in the beginning sections of the series, but it ultimately had satisfying payoff in the second half.
