When I started “Ozark” years ago, I thought the show was pretty solid and showed great potential. I think the first two seasons have great moments but as a whole can feel clunkily paced. I really became a fan of the show with the explosive and emotionally resonant third season where it really felt like it found its footing. I felt the final season was a messy and dragged-out ride but still kept the tense and interesting tone throughout, until the last episode. The ending of this series is pretty sloppily written and I felt like the show went from being realistic to be pretty ludicrous. I don’t think it is necessarily one of the worst finales I have ever seen, but it was frustrating to see it end the way it did. Nonetheless, the show is carried by a unique visual style as well as some phenomenal acting from Jason Bateman, Laura Linney, and Julia Garner. The combination of these three performances keeps the show engaging even when it isn’t at its best from a storytelling perspective. Overall, it is a pretty solid crime thriller that is far from perfect, but still very well made and worth watching because of its outstanding third season.
