The Legend of Korra

“The Legend of Korra” isn’t necessarily a bad show, but it is a consistently underwhelming one. This show takes place in the same universe as the masterful “Avatar: The Last Airbender” series which I consider some of the best-animated storytelling out there. This show boasts great characters and animation, and even a rock-solid first season. I liked Korra as the new Avatar character and thought the relationships with the whole new batch of characters was pretty good in the show. The issue is that the other three seasons, particularly the second, are not well-paced or all that interesting. I think it helps that “Avatar” had great subplots but also an outstanding main story that built up to a great finale. In “Korra,” every season has a new story and not all of them are particularly great. I think because this show will inevitably be compared to its predecessor, it is definitely much weaker, but there are still a handful of great episodes that make it okay for a one time watch. I would say the strongest points in the series are the first and third season but even those don’t come close to anything in “Avatar.” Overall, this series seems to be surrounded by extreme opinions both positive and negative, and I find myself feeling somewhere in the middle thinking it is just okay.

Season Breakdown:

Book 1 – 4/5 STARS

Book 2 – 3/5 STARS

Book 3 – 3.5/5 STARS

Book 4 – 3/5 STARS

Overall Series Score: 3.5/5 STARS
