When They See Us

“When They See Us” frustrated me and broke my heart. This miniseries was outstanding on every front. The story is brutally tough to watch, but it is such an important example of racially charged injustice that I feel everyone should experience. I thought all of the actors in this series did phenomenally and the show always felt very authentic. Ava DuVernay directs this series with a fierce passion that shows, like in every other project she’s done. I strongly urge that everyone with access to Netflix watch this series. By the time I reached the ending of the series, I was angry and emotional. I’m no stranger to crying in movies or shows, but this one hit me hard and left me in a speechless state that few stories have been able to over the years. The show has a haunting power that will stick with me forever which is good because it would be exceptionally tough to watch this series again. Overall, it is one of 2019’s best television offerings and I think it showcases an unforgettable story with a strong and important message.

5/5 STARS
